What is driving tourism trends?
November 02, 2007 01:11 PM PDT
We discuss the current and future of travel - a sort of look into 2008 - with Visit Scotland's Dr. Ian Yeoman. Ian is Visit Scotland's Futurologist and is a leading travel industry scenario planner. Ian describes three key drivers to the state of tourism and travel - the weak US dollar, the rising oil price and, interestingly, global property prices. These three items are what Ian believes will be driving travel consumer sentiment in 2008. He also shares some scary numbers - how does $130 oil grab you? That will choke off travel for sure and a number of other economic activities. If you throw declining property values into that scenario, an even weaker dollar and rising interest rates - it looks downright horrible. You heard it here. Have a nice weekend, if you can. |
